Redeem iTunes Gift Cards with the camera on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac

Learn how you can use the camera on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac to redeem iTunes Gift Cards.

Requirements

You'll need the following if you want to redeem a gift card on your:

iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  • iTunes Gift Card with a focus box around the redemption code
  • iOS 7 or later
  • Apple ID used with iTunes Store
  • Internet connection
  • Well-lit room

Mac

  • iTunes Gift Card with a focus box around the redemption code
  • Mac with a FaceTime camera (an Apple Display with FaceTime works too)
  • OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3 or later
  • Apple ID used with the iTunes Store
  • iTunes 11 or later
  • Internet connection
  • Well-lit room

Redeem your Gift Card

iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Tap iTunes Store or App Store.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the store and tap Redeem.

  3. Sign in with your Apple ID.

  4. Tap Use Camera. You can also redeem your code manually.

  5. Peel off the label on the back of your iTunes Gift Card.
  6. Hold the back of the card (the side with the black focus box) up to your camera.

  7. The camera will read and redeem the code. Your iTunes Store balance should appear onscreen.

Mac

  1. Open iTunes or the App Store on your Mac.
  2. If you opened iTunes, go to the iTunes Store and click Redeem under Quick Links. If you opened App Store, click Redeem under Quick Links.
  3. Click Redeem and sign in with your Apple ID.
  4. Click the Use Camera button.

  5. Peel off the label on the back of your iTunes Gift Card.
  6. Hold the back of the card (the side with the black focus box) up to your FaceTime camera.

  7. After your Mac reads the card code, your iTunes Store balance should appear onscreen after the card is redeemed. Click Done.

Troubleshooting

  • If the room isn't lit well enough, your gift card may not be readable.
  • Completely peel off the coating that is hiding the gift code to improve readability.
  • You can type in your iTunes Gift Card code manually.

  • An error message will appear if you try to redeem an iTunes Gift Card that's already been used.

  • Contact Apple Support if you receive a message that your gift card hasn't been properly activated.
